Malaysian Studies

Sunday 16 May 2010 | |

its 2.54 am and i'm reading malaysian studies textbook.
yeah padan muka last minit baru nak bace..hmmph.

i came to a chapter discussing the ethnics composition in malaysia. basicly explaining about each races in malaysia..malays/chinese/indians etc.

i went on to a part where the book describes about different subgroups under the malays itself such as javaness, bugis etc,

and at that point i remembered the stories my mom told me about these...

.................................................................................

she was telling me stories where her (our!) ancestors, were actually originated from North Sumatran's. An ethnic group called the Mandailings. They migrated here and eventually settled down in several areas in Perak.

And my mom's family bloodline in particular, can be traced back to the family called the Nasutions.

Nasution was one of the recognisable families within the Mandailings ethnic group. In those days, the Nasutions were known mostly as warriors or pahlawan :O

Then, she went told me about her great great grandmothers, famously known by the people of teluk intan at that time, by the name Orang Kaya Kamariah. The term Orang Kaya itself explain everything about her i guess. and she was Mandailing of course...
..............................................................................

i'm no good when telling stories so, i'll just stop here. heh

..............................................................................

d'point is,

i think it kinda awesome, hearing these stories.
i came to certain realisations about the my OWN past, my own heritage..
it never occured to me before that our past is as interesting as any historical epic we heard! We just need to do some digging ourselves and be amazed :)

so,

care to find out about your OWN history? ;p

someday, i just might pass these cool old stories to my children. hehe

p/s: can i use this and get an A for my malaysian studies final please? this one should totally be counted!
